One of my favourite aspects of writing about Jamaican music and culture is seeing how it travels and takes up itself in other geographies. I was and am honoured to have gotten the opportunity to write this piece about the history of the Juno’s reggae category which was birthed by the efforts of Black people mobilizing to have the diversity of out music tradition and genres honoured.

In my debut for The JUNO Awards, and in celebration of its 50th anniversary, I spoke with Jesse Jones and Carrie Mullings about what it took to establish reggae and its music industry in the north and what carving a future looks like.
